Baku – Shamakhi – Gabala – Sheki: Cultural Journey Through Azerbaijan in 5 Days

Day 1: Airport Transfer to Hotel

Upon arrival, you will be greeted and transferred comfortably to your hotel.

Day 2: Baku City Tour & Old City

Start your day with a Baku city tour, where ancient heritage meets futuristic architecture. Your first stop is the Alley of Honor, the final resting place of Azerbaijan’s most respected figures, including the legendary opera singer Muslim Magomayev.

Next, visit Highland Park for panoramic views of the Flame Towers, Baku Bay, and the vibrant city center. The Flame Towers symbolize Azerbaijan’s identity as the “Land of Fire” and reflect its energy-rich heritage.

Stroll along the beautiful seaside boulevard and explore Little Venice, a charming canal network inspired by Italy. Pass by the impressive Government House before heading to the futuristic Heydar Aliyev Center, a masterpiece by Zaha Hadid.

Enjoy dinner at the atmospheric Old Garden restaurant, where you will taste traditional Azerbaijani “Saj” cooked over charcoal, served with fresh salads, soft drinks, and aromatic tea with local sweets.

Immerse yourself in history with a guided tour of Icherisheher (Old City), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk through cobbled streets and discover landmarks such as the Maiden Tower and the Palace of the Shirvanshahs.

Day 3: Shamakhi – Gabala Tour

Travel to Shamakhi, once the capital of the Shirvanshah Empire. Visit the Juma Mosque, built in 743 AD, the oldest mosque in the Caucasus.

Enjoy a traditional Azerbaijani lunch in the forested area of Ismayilli with kebabs, plov, fresh salad, and samovar tea.

Visit Nohur Lake, where emerald waters reflect the surrounding mountains of the Greater Caucasus. Explore nearby markets offering dried fruits, honey, and local teas.

End the day at Tufandag Mountain Resort in Gabala. Take a cable car ride above 2,000 meters and enjoy breathtaking views of Mount Bazarduzu. Overnight stay at Sheki Palace Hotel.

Day 4: Sheki Tour

Begin your day in Kish village, home to an ancient Caucasian Albanian church. Once a pagan site, it later became one of the earliest Christian churches in the region.

Visit the Sheki Khan’s Palace, an 18th-century architectural masterpiece famous for its shebeke stained glass windows made without nails or glue.

Step into the 17th-century Sheki Caravanserai, where Silk Road traders once stayed. Explore Sheki Park and enjoy panoramic views of the city.

Browse local shops for Sheki silk, jewelry, and traditional sweets like Sheki halva. Enjoy a traditional lunch with “Piti,” a slow-cooked lamb stew served in clay pots.

Return to Baku for overnight stay.

Day 5: Airport Transfer

On your final day, enjoy a smooth transfer to Heydar Aliyev International Airport. Leave Azerbaijan with unforgettable memories of its landscapes, culture, and hospitality.
